The folks at Insure.com also say that ill-advised Facebook postings increasingly can get your insurance cancelled or cause you to pay dramatically more for everything from auto to life insurance coverage. Dieters with a certain combination are predisposed to reacquire lost pounds, researchers say
Some dieters may be more likely than others to regain any excess pounds they've lost, depending on their particular hormonal makeup, new Spanish research cautions.
A certain combination of appetite hormones leptin and ghrelin appears to predispose some people to weight gain following a diet, the researchers found.
Study author Ana Crujeiras, of Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Santiago in Spain, and her team report the finding in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
The connection between appetite hormones such as ghrelin and leptin and long-range weight-loss complications stems from work with 104 obese and overweight men and women, all of whom embarked on an eight-week, low-calorie diet.
Before dieting, during the diet, and about four months post-diet, Crujeiras and her colleagues measured each participant's body weight and fasting plasma levels of ghrelin, leptin and insulin.
The bottom-line: Those with higher leptin and lower ghrelin levels before dieting were more likely to reacquire the lost weight after the diet ended.
"We believe this research may indicate that the outcome of weight therapy may be pre-conditioned," Crujeiras said in a news release from the Endocrine Society.
"Our findings may provide endocrinology and nutrition professionals a tool to identify individuals in need of specialized weight-loss programs that first target appetite hormone levels before beginning conventional dietary treatment," she added.
And while noting that "the long-term success of maintaining the weight lost is usually poor," Crujeiras suggested that the current observations "could be used as a tool to personalize weight-loss programs that could guarantee success in keeping off the weight."

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally.
Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so ... Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

Study Shows Some Games Require the Same Energy Expenditure as Moderate-Intensity Exercise Nov. 17, 2009 (Orlando, Fla.) -- A new study shows that some Wii sports video games may burn as many calories as moderate-intensity exercises such as brisk walking. "It's a very easy and fun way to start a physical activity program," says study researcher Motohiko Miyachi, PhD, of the National Institute of Health and Nutrition in Tokyo. The study, funded by Wii maker Nintendo, shows that about one-third of the virtual games and activities in the Wii sports video and fitness packages require the same energy expenditure as moderate-intensity exercise. "Current guidelines recommend that people engage in moderate exercise like walking or doubles tennis about 30 minutes a day, five days a week, to prevent heart disease and stroke," Miyachi tells WebMD. These games may be one way to achieve that goal, says Miyachi, who says he breaks a sweat when playing virtual tennis and basketball. The new study was presented at the annual meeting of the American Heart Association (AHA). Measuring Energy ExpenditureThe researchers measured the energy expenditure of 12 men and women, ages 25 to 44, as they pantomimed the basic moves of Wii sports games and Wii fitness programs. To estimate energy expenditure, they used a standard unit called METs, or metabolic equivalent values. "A MET of 3, for example, means an activity requires three times as much energy expenditure as resting," Miyachi says. According to AHA guidelines, light-intensity exercise is less than 3 METs, moderate-intensity exercise is 3 to 6 METs, and vigorous activity is more than 6 METs. An adult walking 3 miles an hour on a flat surface expends just over 3 METs, the AHA says. The study shows that: - Nine Wii activities required an energy expenditure of less than 2 METs.
- 23 activities required 2 to 3 METs.
- None of the activities required 3 to 4 METs.
- Five activities required more than 4 METs.
The most intense exercise was the single-arm stand in the Wii fit package, which required an energy expenditure of nearly 6 METs. "It's a difficult resistance exercise that involves standing up and lying down," Miyachi says. The Wii sports boxing game came in at 4 1/2 METs, while both the Wii tennis and baseball games were associated with moderate-intensity expenditures of about 3 METs. Wii golfers and bowlers may have to get out and do the real thing to get the health benefits of exercise: both came in at less than 3 METs. While yoga and balance exercises didn't burn as many calories as other Wii activities, they help improve flexibility and reduce the risk for falls, Miyachi says. Barry Franklin, MD, of the William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., tells WebMD he's all for the Wii games. "They’re fun, they're innovative, and they can be set up almost anyplace. Most importantly, they get people moving."

Once a person IS sick, if you want to make sure they get worse and open themselves up for further infection, then don't let them ever get a fever. WHAT? Most people think of a fever as the enemy. A carefully watched fever is our friend! It is designed to help destroy the attacking pathogen/bacteria. When we take something that forces the fever down, it limits our body's ability to fight of the infection and thus allows it to multiply. The fever IS part of our immune response. Once it reaches 103 degrees, then I would recommend taking something, but you want to allow it to stay above normal and do its job. HOWEVER, you must make sure you or your child is well hydrated. Give them lots of fluids like water, fruit smoothies, carrot juice, Pedialyte, clear broth, herbal teas, etc. They should stay home, eat light, and rest. The other thing that happens when kids get medication is they get a false sense that they are getting better and want to run around and play (or as adults go back to work), that not only makes it harder for their body to fight the infection, but also starts spreading it to everyone else. STAY put until the fever has been gone for 24 hours WITHOUT medication. According to Georgetown University Hospital and other sources, the H1N1 flu is actually not as dangerous as the seasonal flu; however the problem comes when it is followed by a bacterial infection like pneumonia. The KEY is to have a strong immune system. Why are so many people today having a hard time making it in a home based business like MLM or Network Marketing? What criteria do you need to look for in a company? Anyone who plans on working from home needs to read all of this IF they want any chance to succeed! The latest statistics being published are saying that over 97% of people who are in a home based business are failing to make a living at it! This is not very conducive to people looking at trying to add to their current income from their regular jobs! I have spent 19 years full time at home and must admit that I am very disgusted with this entire industry as a whole! In fact, I almost quit the entire MLM industry in September, 2008 due to many reasons! Every company I joined seemed to feel that we were not worth it to keep on board by doing a number of things to force us to quit! This truly makes no sense to me except to lead to one area…greed on the part of the owners! They would do things like change their compensation plans to make more money for them and less for us. I worked so hard to build a downline only to watch it erode away and force me to quit and start all over again with another MLM company only to see if happen again and again! Sometimes you have to wonder why owners think this way. It seems that they are shallow minded to think that if they can make a lot more money now, who cares what happens later. Then I try and picture what I would do if I were an owner of these companies. Well, I guess I have a lot more feeling for people’s needs and what it can do to individual’s families over the long haul! I have seen many people file chapter 7 in court due to this same scenario which is truly sad. Where has ethical behavior gone? Are people this selfish today? Short sighted and shallow thinking instead of preserving what you have built, and to grow immensely over time! No one has a crystal ball to predict what will happen once you put all your time and effort in trying to build a supposed “walk away income” that ALL these companies preach to you as you move through this MLM industry. As I learn more and more and am able to dissect companies, I tend to find better and better companies to represent! What we really have to watch out for is all the “hyped” up promoters out there whose only goal is to scam you! If you buy into hype and do not use you God given gift of a brain, you lose and so do all the people you introduce to your opportunity! What do you need to stay away from? High cost buy in and high monthly auto ships over $50.00. Startup kits that cost money instead of a free sign up. Monthly web site costs as they should be free! Annual renewal fees as there should be none. Stay away from all Binary, Breakaway, Unilevel, and Hybrid Compensation Plans! The Matrix Compensation Plan is the most rewarding of all of them due to spillover! But, all Matrices are not created equal, there are many bad ones too. Never do a start up program since the deck is stacked against you! Why? FACT: Over 95% of all new programs fail in their first 2 years of operation! People think if they get in at the beginning they will make a lot of money since they feel that no one else will know about it so they can get a lot of people in their downline this way! Ask yourself this question: Do I want to spend all my time and effort building a program knowing that I have a 5% chance to succeed? This should be a no brainer! Do NOT let yourself get caught up in the HYPE out there and let these high pressure salesmen convince you to part with you money and time to be at the top, it is a farce! I know of companies that are 20 years old that are still an opportunity and many that are not due to their program! There is only one industry that has stood the test of time and that people have as the highest priority on their to do list and that is health, wellness, and skin care! We can see several companies who are still around after 30 years like Herbalife, Shaklee, Mary Kay, Nature’s Sunshine, and several others! People think that these affiliate type programs, money games, cash gifting, travel, telecoms, and various other types will make them money! They may, but they never last past a couple of years if that! Ask yourself this: Do I truly want to build it once and have walk away income or do I want to work the rest of my life to keep money coming in? What it truly comes down to is this in our economy; people want to look good and live longer to truly enjoy life. If you help people in this area and since they purchase these “consumable” products each month, this ends up being a “True Residual Income for Life” Remember, the product must be consumable! June 08, 2009 Dear Max Family, This last weekend time stood still as we learned that Dr. Keller’s fight with a serious illness had ended when he peacefully passed away late Friday evening. As you all know, for the past year Dr. Keller discussed his fight with his illness on conference calls and repeatedly thanked the field for its support and prayers. Words cannot express the mix of emotions that we all feel as a result of this news—disbelief, shock, emptiness, sadness, love, appreciation, renewed dedication, and reflection. As we come to terms with this news, one thing stands out: all of us are extremely appreciative of Dr. Keller’s profound legacy. We are grateful for his friendship, his partnership, and for the thousands of hours of sacrifice he made in and out of the lab which resulted in the creation of MaxGXL™. Countless Associates in the field have told us their incredible stories of improved health and renewed hope that were the direct result of his education and formulations. These stories are moving tributes to his work. Dr. Keller will be remembered by the world as a brilliant scientist, compassionate physician, consummate educator, and a dedicated friend. The most vital (and fortunately the most abundant) element on earth is oxygen. Without it, life as we know it could not exist. A brief update from new Max customer, Steve T... "I am now taking two packs [of the MaxGXL] a day along with the N-Fuze, I'm not sure what's going on, but there is something happening. I'm starting to sleep better, which I always have a harder time doing in the winter because I'm not out hammering on my bike. I went to the gym the other day and I haven't lifted weights in over 3 weeks. I did a very light workout, but noticed there was no stiffness and I seemed to be throwing around a little more weight than usual. I feel less inflammation and I'm not as stiff so it must be the GXL. I can't wait for warmer weather to get here and see what this stuff does once I'm on the bike. This "Holiday Season" I hope you will be celebrating your blessings with family and friends. Regular aerobic exercise, is alkalizing and can not only stave off the decline in brain function that often comes with age, it can also help turn back the clock on brain aging, two experts in the field report, based on a critical review of published studies.
Age or acid-related deterioration in the all-important white and gray matter in the brain makes a number of high-level "executive function" tasks -- such as planning, scheduling, working memory and multi-tasking -- much more difficult, Drs. Arthur F. Kramer and Kirk I. Erickson explain in the latest issue of the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
Yet a substantial body of research shows that these are the very processes that are most responsive to physical exercise, note the authors from the University of Illinois Beckman Institute, Urbana.
In people with or those without signs of dementia or Alzheimer's disease, regular moderate physical activity, enough to make a person breathless, has been shown to boost not only the speed and sharpness of thought but also the actual volume of brain tissue and the way in which the brain functions, Kramer and Erickson note.
For example, in a 6-month study Kramer and colleagues conducted, adults ages 60 to 75 who walked briskly for 45 minutes a day three days a week not only improved their aerobic fitness but also their mental fitness -- particularly their ability to perform executive function tasks - compared with a control group who engaged only in non-aerobic stretching and toning exercises.
These results suggest that regular moderate aerobic exercise can "reliably reverse age-related cognitive decline," Kramer and Erickson write, and that the aging brain retains its capacity to grow and develop.
According to Dr. Robert O. Dr. Ron Rosedale… What is life? Some of the best minds in the world have been mulling over this question for decades and nobody has an answer, Dr. Ron Rosedale said at Friday’s General Session. He went on to say that all we know for sure is that life is “not dead.” What is health? It certainly must be tied to life. If I want you healthy, I certainly want you alive. If you’re dead you’re not healthy. We know that. On that subject, what is death? If you examine the composition of the body before death and after, it is very similar. The cells of the body can be kept alive for a remarkably long time independent of the body. What dies is not the parts but the interaction of the parts. Because there are not clear cut definitions for what sustains health, we make them up. Directions on how to be healthy are sometimes given, but no defined destination. You can give direction all you want and it will take you somewhere and if that somewhere is what you define as health then you are satisfied. For instance, there is no such thing as good and bad cholesterol. The body requires cholesterol to live. Yet we say that reducing cholesterol is a good thing. A drug was developed that was proven to reduce cholesterol, yet it increased mortality and incidence of cancer. They finally had to stop testing the drug because too many people were dying. In fact, more people were killed than helped during testing. That drug is still on the market. Why? …Because it effectively lowered cholesterol. So you died with lower cholesterol. Another test showed that a drug dramatically reduced blood sugar in diabetics. But they had to stop the study because so many people in the treatment group were dying. Yet we supposedly know lowering blood sugar is a good thing, so what is going on here? They’re not recognizing what a disease is. They don’t know what to treat. If I’m lying there dead you can measure all of my parts. Carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, phosphorous, oxygen, and you’d find they’re virtually identical to life. Cells can live independent of the body and be kept alive for an indefinite period. Virtually every cancer institute in the world has cultures of Henrietta Lacks’ cells. Henrietta Lacks died of cervical cancer in 1951. A section of her tumor was placed into a Petri dish, bathed in nutrients. The cells multiplied at a rate unlike anything witnessed outside the human body. It was a breakthrough in cell research. Researchers studied the cells of Henrietta Lacks to determine what dies in the event of a heart attack. Few cells die. What dies are not the parts but the interaction of the parts working as a collective republic. Each of us is a republic of cells, a society that works in harmony and remains healthy through effective communication between the cells. All disease, without exception, is due to failure in cells to communicate effectively. People regularly get their cholesterol levels checked but how many have had their leptin levels tested? No life can exist without cholesterol, and leptin tells all the other cells what to do. Leptin is perhaps one of the most important structural agents we have in the body. You cannot have life without cholesterol. The chances of cholesterol causing heart disease are absolutely nil. Our liver creates cholesterol to keep us alive, not to kill us. There is no such thing as good and bad cholesterol, it’s just cholesterol. You have to look at disease in a different way. Disease is never going to be due to the heart. If cholesterol doesn’t know where to go it goes to the wrong place. Diabetes is not a disease of blood sugar, not at all. At the very least, you can say it is a disease of insulin communication. Either the signal is too much or too little, so your sugars go up. Even that is a kindergarten way of looking at it. We know that, just like leptin, insulin is controlled by other hormones. We can learn a lot by knowing nature’s purpose for us. What does nature want from us? There are two biological imperatives that need to take place for life to take place. To eat and to reproduce. Nature wants the instructions to pass on from one generation to the next. Nature wants to keep us around long enough to accomplish those goals. That’s why the information has to survive. We have a complex system of turning genes on and off. Hormones work by telling the genes what to do. If genetic expression determines health, we have to determine which ones to turn on and which to turn off. Turn off the genes that give you disease and turn on the ones that protect you. That’s what nutrient sensors are all about, that’s what insulin and leptin are about. If you control leptin you control everything else. Many labs are now measuring levels of leptin but most doctors don’t know what it is. Leptin is a hormone made by fat. People become diabetic the same way they become obese, through hormone resistance. People with type-2 diabetes, and 95 percent of all diabetics are this type, have too much insulin, but it’s not able to work because the cells have stopped listening. They are overexposed and start behaving as if insulin is too low and become diabetic. The same thing happens in leptin resistance. The cells that have to listen to leptin are really critical. Even though most cells have to listen there is a critical area of your brain, the hypothalamus that controls everything else. We now know that leptin, which is produced by fat, controls your hypothalamus. “Leptin controls virtually everything. It controls your body temperature, insulin and every other hormone in your body.”-Ron Rosedale A person may wonder why he gets fat in his forties when he eats the same thing he ate in his twenties, when he was skinny. Then the lines of communication were open but lines slowly close like an old telephone wire and we become leptin and insulin resistant. As the line of communication from your fat to your brain becomes corrupted, you start getting fat. The message doesn’t get to your brain, you start becoming leptin resistant and start making more leptin. The hypothalamus hears low leptin even though your fat is saying high leptin. The hypothalamus tells you to eat more, be hungry, make more fat and don’t burn the fat you’ve got, so you get even fatter. If the brain doesn’t hear the message you will not be able to burn fat and if you don’t burn fat the only other fuel you can burn is sugar. But you don’t store that much sugar and don’t have a lot to spare. You start craving sugar and carbohydrates. When you get fat you put it in all the wrong places. If I had to condense everything I know about health into one sentence, it is this: Your health and your life span will be determined by the amount of fat and sugar you burn over a lifetime. If you burn fat you will be healthy unless you get run over by a truck. If you burn sugar you’re not going to be healthy. When you’re burning sugar your leptin and insulin levels are high. When burning fat, leptin and insulin stay low and you increase maintenance repair and tone down cellular reproduction. Why is that good? When you’re constantly revving up cellular reproduction what does that lead to? Cancer. That’s not hypothetical. We know that’s the case. Almost all cancers are associated with high levels of insulin and or leptin. When you keep those levels low, your risk of cancer goes way down—tenfold. Leptin controls virtually everything. It controls your body temperature, insulin and every other hormone in your body. It controls not just whether you are fat but where you gain weight. Belly fat chokes off your liver so it can’t produce insulin, and therefore produces too much sugar. It chokes off your pancreas; it chokes off your heart. Belly fat is really bad. We know now that visceral fat and belly fat is controlled also by leptin. That’s extremely important. Life is not in the parts. It is only in the instructions and communications between the parts. We’re all made of the same parts. You’re heart cells and liver cells and kidney cells all have the same genetics. There is not a single difference in the genes. Genetic expression is affected by your hormones. If you change leptin and insulin, you will change five to ten thousand genes out of the 16,000 to 18,000 we’ve got. That’s huge. You change who you are, how you think, how you behave, how healthy you are by changing leptin. You change leptin by changing what you eat. Your fat controls your brain by way of leptin and then your brain controls everything else. That’s an important thing to know.

The Mediterranean diet and your health
A recent Reuters article (Sept-08) states that, according to Italian researchers, “sticking strictly to a Mediterranean diet rich in fruits and vegetables offers substantial protection against cancer, heart disease and other major chronic illnesses...” including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
The conclusion that the Mediterranean diet boosts health comes from a report which summarized 12 longitudinal studies including over 1.5 million people through 3 to 18 years. Both eating habits and health parameters were tracked.
A traditional Mediterranean diet is full of vegetables, fish and healthy fats such as olive and fish oils, and a low amount of red meat, dairy products and alcohol.
Not just any old vegetable is as good as some others. High-fiber low-glycemic vegetables are best for addressing insulin and leptin levels, for people losing weight, and to improve overall health. If you are trying to control glucose, insulin, and/or leptin levels, be cautious about the kinds and amounts of fruits you eat. Some of the best are olives and avocados. Avoid these fruits: banana, cantaloupe, dried and canned fruits, grapes, honeydew, orange, pineapple, and watermelon. Limit other fruits to one serving or (1/2 cup) per day.
In addition to cutting the amount of red meat, dairy, and alcohol ingested, it is also recommended to cut out sugars, sugar substitutes, and processed foods due to the level of chemical additives and low nutritional value of the processed ingredients.

I have learned much from reading Dr. Rosedale’s book. The Rosedale Diet. Dr. Rosedale is an expert in metabolic medicine and the biology of aging with particular emphasis on healing the body through good nutrition and diet. I listened to Dr. Wilson speak today and he mentioned the following 5 practices which can also be found in Dr. Richards book, "The Leptin Diet." I have added some comments and suggestions from my reading and research as well. Max WLX is not a magic pill... and it is a proven long-term solution to supplement your efforts to change your leptin levels and reduce fat and inches. These practices also will assist in the journey to balanced health and wellness. The five practices of reducing leptin and fat: - Rule 1: DO NOT eat after dinner. Allow 11-12 hours between dinner and breakfast. Never go to bed on a full stomach. Finish eating dinner at least three hours before bed.
- Rule 2: Eat three meals a day. Allow 5-6 hours between meals. Do not snack. If you feel the need for a snack, take a WLX capsule until you retrain your body and your leptin levels are regulated.
- Rule 3: Do not eat large meals. If overweight, always try to finish a meal slightly less than full, the full signal will usually catch up in 10-20 minutes. Eating slowly is important. WLX taken 30-60 minutes before a meal will also help you to fell full sooner.

- Rule 5: Reduce the amount of carbohydrates eaten. Some of ask how much.
